SOUTHAMPTON 3-3 TOTTENHAM

Tottenham wasted a golden chance to gain three points and move into third place above Manchester United by letting a 2 goal lead slip at bottom club Southampton.

The scenario was typical Tottenham who at one stage were leading 3-1 with just 15 minutes remaining of the game. The lilywhites went in the game with Porro again prefered at right back and Richarlison ahead of Kulusevski in the front three. It didn’t take long for team named to be changed when Richarlison pulled up with an injury and had to be replaced by Kulusevski. Not long after Southampton defender Bella-Kotchap had to come off due to a shoulder injury. HE was replaced by Mohammed Salisu.

The first half was tense with not much in it and it took till injury time in the first half for the first goal. It was Spurs right back Pedro Porro who latched onto a Heung-Min Son pass before gleefully thumping home a shot off the underside of the bar. As late in the first half as Tottenham scored Southampton scored at the earliest point of the second half through Che Adams. The Scotsman converting a low cross from ex Arsenal star Theo Walcott.

Twenty minutes later master marksman Harry Kane scored from a header to put the London side ahead. Quickly following on ten minutes later Ivan Perisic volleyed home sweetly to seal what everyone expected to be three points. Moments after Perisic thumped home Theo Walcott scored for Southampton and late into injury time Southampton sealed their comeback when James Ward-Prowse converted a penalty after Spurs sub Pape Sarr was adjudged to have fouled Maitland –Niles whilst trying to clear.

It was a result that neither side wanted. Southampton are running out of time to save themselves and Tottenham need to keep their foot on the gas with Newcastle and Liverpool hot on their heels.
